This morning I was attempting to explain some of the changes Google has made to its travel business and its direct effects on Kayak.com to a friend of mine. I drew a quick flow chart to add some visual punch to what I was rambling about and I thought some of the Project Wander readers might find it interesting.

About a year ago Google was rumored to be in talks with Kayak about potentially buying the site. At the time, the Google/Kayak relationship looked something like this:

*Dotted red lines are attempted acquisitions

If the rumor about the potential buy-out of Kayak was true, we can assume that it did not go through. On February 12 2010, Google announced Kayak.com as a competitor. Skipping forward to today, we can see a lot has changed. Most importantly, Googles bid for ITA software:

Google now has access to a lot of the same functions as Kayak, with ITA representing the final piece in the puzzle. A lot can change in a year!
