newzealandNew Zealand would have to be one of the best destinations globally for not only being eco-concious, but also taking advantage of a growing demand for ectotourism. Having a population of around 4,000,000 Million living on about 270,000 square km’s allows NZ to control the industry with fairly strict conditions. To get a sense of scale, America is about 9,ooo,ooo square km’s with a population nearing 300,000,000 meaning that control over the quality of services offered is next to impossible. The below video will give you an idea of some of the operators that put the environment first:

My wife and I had the chance to visit New Zealand for our Honeymoon a few months ago and were lucky enough to be set up with Trips & Trams. They have over 20 years experience and cater to the smaller tour groups, which we really liked. Our guide Steve, (Also part owner) was spot on with commentary and local knowledge, perfect for individuals looking for something more private. Trips & Tramps are HIGHLY recommended.

Overall, the industry of ecotourism in NZ is highly regimented and embraced by the local operators, some of which are also NZ natives. Their principles, practices and over all structure are something to be admired globally as the new standard for preservation of delicate ecosystems.

Agree: NZ is a special place due to its emphasis on ecological preservation. We use only Qualmark certified vendors to insure a caring for the environment.

Hi Ben, I had a look at your site, those are some nice tours! I found it interesting that the team you have are not travel industry people. Looks like they’re more focused on the stress relief side of things rather than industry side. Does this present any challenges for you? Can you tell me more about Qualmark?
    Thanks for your comments.
